Saturday, it's Primary Activity Day!

Ah, nothing better than spending 6 hours on a Friday night prepping for a Primary activity. Heather was responsible for (and as usual did most of the work for) setting up the Primary activity. She decided to do a Drive-in Movie theme. So the children (kids are goats as mother would say) spent an hour prepping cardboard boxes by decorating and putting on wheels and flags and making them cool, then they would all gather their new cars and drive them over to the drive-in theater which we setup in the gym. Heather spent months trying to find the original "First Vision" as the religious theme was the celebration of Joseph Smith and reorganization of the church. Unable to find the original, she settled on "The Restoration". The only problem was, she originally thought it lasted 50 min when on Friday night we discovered it was only 19 min. So this left a whole lot of time and another search for a "Church approved" video. I assisted her in this by purchasing Disney's "Melody Time" at Costco and telling her that the Bishopric approved "Johnny Appleseed" as an intro movie.

I helped set up the Theatre. We used the back half of the cultural hall and hung a large white bed sheet up on the wall then I used the Bishop's digital projector, DVD player, and my stereo to setup the visuals. It really looked great. I then (of course under the scrutiny of the boss and taskmaster) taped up the floors to make a parking lot for the drive-in, complete with dotted lines (road) coming into the parking lot. We also setup one of the Christmas booths from the church attic as a concessions stand and used an old fashion popcorn maker to make real movie popcorn.

The kids had a blast and it worked out really well (even ended on time! A modern miracle!). Isabelle invited her friend Kaitlin down the street after Heather got approval from her mom. She called her mom and forgot to mention that it was a religious themed movie, so Heather had to call back a second time and explain that it was a church activity thus, a religious church movie would be shown about our organization and Joseph Smith. Surprisingly the mom said she wanted her daughter to see other religions and it was fine with them. Good stuff, and well done Heather.
